Papa John's new Galway United sponsor

Galway United have moved quickly to replace their former shirt sponsor, O'Connell Drylining, whose association with the club was terminated last week, by today announcing a deal with Papa John's Pizza, the nationwide pizza franchise which was brought to Ireland in 2004 by Supermacs founder, Pat McDonagh.

The deal is welcome news for the Western club who looked to be slipping deeper and deeper into financial turmoil over recent months. They are far from out of the mire, though, with takeover talks with a group of Manchester businessmen still believed to be ongoing and seen to be the only viable solution to Galway's falling attendances and cash-flow problems.

The deal with Papa John's Pizzas will run initially until the end of the season, but hopes are high that a longer deal can be negotiated before the end of the current campaign.
