Hi Ho Silva heads away from international football
Manchester City midfielder David Silva has called time on his illustrious international career with Spain, having announced his international retirement this week.
After 125 games and 35 goals for the Spanish national side during which time Silva won the World Cup in 2010 as well as two European Championships in 2008 and 2012, the 32-year old has decided to hang up the red jersey for good.
Silva made his debut for Spain in a 1-0 friendly win over Romania in 2006 and since then went on to become regular in the national side.
The three time Premier League winner released an open letter on his Twitter feed which outlined his regrettable reasons for making the decision to retire from international football.
“It's not easy to write this after all that I have experienced. I've been thinking things through for the past days and weeks, thinking what the National Team means to me. Without a doubt it is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to take and I say it from humility and gratitude.
"The National Team has given me everything and taught me how to grow from the youth squads to the senior side.
"I leave happy for everything I have achieved in this team, what I've dreamed and experienced with a team that will never be forgotten. I put an end to a stage in my life, full of emotion for all the moments that come to mind, like the role of Luis Aragonés, a teacher we will never forget.
