Bates and McGill join Drogheda United
Drogheda United FC have announced the signings of Guy Bates and Brendan Mc Gill.
Striker Guy Bates is no stranger to Drogheda fans and is fondly remembered as the man who scored the goal to secure the first ever league title against Cork back in 2007. He re-signs for Drogheda after being released by R.A.A. Louvieroise in Belgium at the end of their season.
Dublin native Mc Gill, who was released by Barrow at the end of the season, and who has previously played for Gretna, Carlisle and Bohemians returns to Ireland once again to help Drogheda in their quest to secure their place in the Premier Division. The midfielder has an FAI cup medal from his time at Bohs and also a Scottish League Division One medal from his 2 year spell with Gretna.
Drogheda Manager Alan Matthews is delighted with the signings and is confident that they will help push Drogheda up the table, starting with the game away to Derry City this Friday. "Going into the second half of the season and with a small squad such as ours, it was always important that we looked to get a few players in during the transfer window to ensure that we have a squad capable of consolidating the clubs position in the Premier Division". "With the signings of Bates and McGill, we have got experience and quality and I am sure that they will both be terrific signings for Drogheda United."
