Waterford United will be looking to take full advantage of Sporting Fingal’s surprise loss to Finn Harps on Saturday night and move into third place if they can notch up a win against second from bottom Longford Town on Sunday evening. (Kick-off 6:30)

Longford Town manager Gareth Cronin welcomes the side he left two and a half years ago, but Cronin will not be distracted from his team’s job at hand, winning three points.

Talking to Longford Town’s official website he explained, “I enjoyed my time with Waterford but I’m looking forward to three points. We lost a silly game against the Wexford Youths so I’m looking to make up for that on Sunday. Obviously the connection is there but I’m the manager of Longford Town now and that’s my main focus.”

In Longford team news, Mick Foley will play having joined from Drogheda United. Danny O’Leary is in contention for a place in goal. Bohemians loanee, Brian McCarthy may not be eligible due to loan agreement issues.

Waterford United Manager Stephen Henderson will be expecting three points from the game, and talking to Waterford FC website he stated he was happy with his teams current position and proud of the work effort of his squad.

"I would have taken our current position had I been offered it at the start of the season. The lads have been great all season, and I salute them."

"We are where we are at the moment through hard work and because we have some good players, and I think that we're going strong because we deserve it."

Waterford United’s new signings Stephen Grant and Dave Warren will be in the squad to play. Kenny Browne is suspended for this clash. The club reports a clean bill of health on all other players.

This game has been put back a day to allow the pitch recover from some drainage work and although Sunday at 18:30 may be an unusual time for kick-off it means that there will be no clash with the All-Ireland qualifier game involving Longford and Leitrim.

Extratime.ie Prediction: Waterford to prove too strong. 3-1.
