Monaghan United welcome Limerick FC to Kingspan Century Park on Thursday evening hoping that they can leapfrog the Shannonsiders into sixth position. Limerick come into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to table toppers Shelbourne. The Mons fared much better in their last game before the break defeating Mervue United by five goals to one.

Monaghan manager Mick Cooke has been happy with his sides play of late and believes if his side can continue to take their chances then they will see past Limerick.

“A win is something that we can achieve, but we must continue display our recent performances. In our last three outings we made very good starts in each game by getting an early goal in each case and with the accumulative take of goals we demonstrated that at last we are converting the chances that were eluding us in previous games and we also learned that when we are in control we must finish the game off.”

Cooke has no injury worries going into the game. Alan Byrne and Cathal O'Connor are both suspended for one match and will miss this game. Sean Brennan is also suspended, serving the first of a two game ban.

Limerick manager Pat Scully will be happy to see his side back in action, after a turbulent few weeks which saw the very future of Limerick FC in doubt. Thanks to a strong local campaign to raise funds, the short term future of the club seems more secure.

Despite the financial woes, Scully has added defender Conor Molan to his team. Molan spent the last year in Australia with the Melbourne based Whittlesea Zebras, who compete in the Victorian Premier League. Molan will not feature against Monaghan United as he is waiting on his international clearance.

In Lims team news, captain Pat Purcell will be out for up to two weeks more with strained knee ligaments. Ian Storan is also out due to a back injury. Jamie Wunsch is having a scan on his knee this week whilst Paul Cummins out with an ankle Injury for up to ten weeks. Thomas Lyons is also out with a knee injury for the next two weeks.

The game coincides with the FAI 2009 Annual Conference which this year takes place in Co. Monaghan so John Delaney and all the FAI Management Delegation will be in attendance at this clash.

Extratime.ie Prediction: Monaghan to continue where they left off before the break. 2-1 win for the home side.
