Setanta Cup draw postponed

The draw for the Setanta Sports Cup for 2009 scheduled for Thursday 25th June has been postponed. The Football Association of Ireland and the Irish Football Association announced on Monday that they have agreed with Setanta Sports to postpone the draw.

Setanta Sports have been struggling in recent weeks, and last weekend lost the contract from the Premier League to show 46 live games next season. In recent days, both US Tycoon Len Blavatnik’s Access Industries and Big Brother maker Endemol have been linked to potentially investing in Setanta.

The statement released states that “this draw has been postponed at the request of Setanta Sports to give the company an opportunity to gain clarity around a number of market related issues it currently faces.”

A meeting has been arranged with participating clubs for Thursday afternoon (25th June) in Dublin.
