Dundalk sign Nigerian striker Marco Tagbajumi
Dundalk have made one last signing before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday, bringing in experienced Nigerian forward Marco Tagbajumi on a one-year contract.
Tagbajumi, who becomes the Lilywhites' tenth signing of the winter, was most recently with Norwegian Eliteserien outfit Stromsgodset.
He spent the second half of last season on loan to Lillestrom, where the 29-year-old picked up a Norwegian Cup winner's medal in December.
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a new experience for me and I’m looking forward to getting started,” Tagbajumi told the club's official website.
“I spoke to my agent about it and Stephen (Kenny) gave me a call. He told me what he was looking for and I matched his criteria and he was very pleased to have me.
“I’m really excited. It’s going to be a really new experience for me so I’m really happy.”
The centre-forward had spells in the lower echelons of English and Portuguese football before making his name in Cyprus.
He scored 18 goals for Ermis Aradippou, becoming the Cypriot First Division’s top goalscorer, as they qualified for Europe for the first time in 2013/14.
He also brings with him to Oriel Park experience of playing European football, having featured in ties against Zenit St Petersburg and Tottenham Hotspur whilst playing for AEL Limassol in 2014/15.
He spent a year in the Thai Premier League with Nakhon Ratchasima in between two spells at Stromsgodset, where he scored a total of seven goals in 23 league appearances.
He could make his debut for Dundalk on Friday when they travel to Shamrock Rovers in the SSE Airtricity League, following a frustrating scoreless home draw with Bray Wanderers on opening day.
