Sporting Fingal -v- Kildare County

After three wins on the road Sporting Fingal go into Friday’s game against rock bottom Kildare County at Morton Stadium in high spirits.

Kildare meanwhile haven’t taken a single point away from home this season and the chances of them breaking this dismal run seems small against Liam Buckley’s men. Sporting Fingal put eight past them at Station Road.

The home side will be boosted by the return of Gary O’Neill’s from injury. The striker was sidelined for three months with a groin injury but recovered in time to feature as a late substitute in Friday’s 2-0 win at Blarney United in the FAI Ford Cup.

Robbie Doyle is also back in contention after a month out though a knee injury but Shaun Maher (foot) and Stephen Paisley (ankle) are still out. Centre-back Philip Byrne will undergo a pre-match fitness test on his calf injury.

Kildare however can take heart from the fact that they secured a draw here last season and , although they remain rooted to the bottom of the table, their performances have improved under new manager Joe Somerville. Liam Buckley shares this sentiment “Kildare have tightened things up since Joey Somerville has come in as manager and they’ve caused problems for teams in the last few weeks. But, from our perspective, we need to kick on having won our last three against UCD, Wexford Youths and Blarney United.”

Somerville welcomes back the three players cup tied last weekend, Philip Hughes, Christy Doran and Darren O’Brien whilst his other new signings should be all registered and available for selection which will be a big boost for Kildare.

Extratime.ie Prediction: Despite the recent better performances by Kildare, Sporting should be too strong; 2-0.
