Former Manchester City midfielder Jack Byrne joins Oldham Athletic
Ireland under-21 international Jack Byrne has sealed a permanent move to Oldham Athletic on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Wigan Athletic after a successful loan spell at the club.
Dublin native Byrne was on loan at the Latics between August and December 2017, making 25 appearances for the club and scoring seven times in a four-month spell.
The 21-year-pld midfielder originally made the move to England in 2011, when he signed for Manchester City from St. Kevin’s Boys.
During his six years overseas he has enjoyed loan spells with Dutch side SC Cambuur and Blackburn Rovers.
Byrne then made the switch to Wigan Athletic in search of first team football but found chances limited under former Sligo Rovers boss Paul Cook.
The gifted player took to Twitter to share the news of the permanent move to his new club and mentioned he was ‘buzzing to be back with the Latics”.

Byrne will be hoping he can kick-start his career back in Oldham and help them move further away from the League 1 relegation zone.
