Cook taking it one step at a time

Paul Cook was happy with his sides ability to comeback from being a goal down twice to take Cork City to a replay at the Showgrounds tomorrow night.

After the game, the Liverpudlian said: “We’re delighted. It’s a fantastic result but we’ve got a terrible difficult game now against a very good Cork side on Tuesday night but we can only do our best again.

“We’ve had another couple of bad injuries tonight and we’ve only got young lads but we’ll do our best as a club and see what happens on Tuesday. Our starting eleven is always strong and we’ve got some smashing players but the squad is lacking a bit of depth and it isn’t quite what it should be.”

Rafael Cretaro was the star for Sligo and was duly named Ford Man of the Match for his efforts and Cook was also keen to single out his attacker for praise. “He’s a top class player and a smashing lad. He’s got fantastic talent the boy but like a lot of other players too.”

Cook is the first to admit his squad is a bit thin and with the transfer window opening in a little over two weeks, he deems it necessary to bring in some new players. “We’ll have to bring some in because if we don’t we’ll have no players,” added Cook who currently finds his side five points off of the foot of the table.

The start of the Europa Cup is approaching for the Bit O’Red, but rather than view it as a distraction Cook is still keen to focus on league matters and keeping it “one game at a time.”
