Aganovic, Hopkirk, Cofie, Agnew and Peers sign for Derry City
Derry City have announced the signings of two centre-backs, two midfielders and a striker.
The Candystripes have signed Armin Aganovic, David Hopkirk, John Cofie, Conor Agnew and former St.Patrick's Athletic centre-back Gavin Peers.
Derry City manager Kenny Shiels teased last week that he has travelled across Europe in efforts to add significant depth to his squad for next season.
The signings come after big losses for the Foylesiders in recent weeks, with Cork City tying up deals for Aaron Barry and Barry McNamee and Dundalk gaining the services of Dean Jarvis.
The ex-Galway midfielder, Rory Hale and ex-Kilmarnock right back, Dapo Kayode take Derry's total signings to seven before December.
Discussing the signing of Gavin Peers, Shiels said: “Gavin Peers brings experience and organisation he knows the league and he is something we haven’t got - his experience and organisational skills will lend himself to our needs.”
Swedish-born, Armin Aganovic, played for Galway United in 2016 and Shiels revealed he was eager to gain the centre-back's services for the new campaign.
“Aganovic played for Galway the year before last, I tried to sign him and Cork tried to sign him, he’s 23 and a very good player with experience and he is ideal for what we are about.”
Shiels also revealed he has signed up a long-time target of his in David Hopkirk.
The Scottish midfielder played for Dunfermline Athletic for three seasons before being released by the club this month.
“He is an attacking midfielder who I tried to sign when I was at Morton, he’s a player I have always been interested in. He is signed and ready to come in and play in January.”
