Last-gap winner sees Athlone Town crowned inaugural under-15 National League champions
Athlone Town have been crowned champions of the inaugural under-15 League of Ireland following a comeback victory over St Patrick's Athletic on Sunday night.
The Saints led at the break through a Kyle Conway strike but Dylan Gavin equalised early in the second half before netting a dramatic winner with practically the last kick of the game.
In icy conditions at Athlone Town Stadium, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock after ten minutes as Conway slotted the ball past Athlone keeper Sean O'Toole.
Midway through the second half, Athlone were awarded a penalty for a foul on Adam Lennon and, though Gavin saw his effort saved by Aaron Davis, the striker poked home the rebound to equalise.
And just as the 80 minutes appeared destined to finish without a winner, Gavin popped up again in the final minute to ensure a turbulent season for Athlone Town ended with a trophy.
