JD Welsh Premiership Round-up - Nomads join TNS at top of table

This weekend's fixtures in the JD Welsh Premier threw up the shock of the season so far as Barry Town United travelled to league leaders the New Saints and came away with all three points thanks to Kayne McClaggon's strike on 51 minutes.

Having written off the title race in last week's report, Barry threw the race wide open again as Cardiff Met and Connah's Quay capitalised. Met swept aside a lacklustre Carmarthen Town, 5-0 in Cyncoed, whilst the Nomads beat Prestatyn Town 2-1 at home.

Aberystwyth put some breathing space between themselves and second-bottom club Newtown by beating Cefn Druids 1-0 at home, a late goal from John Owen sealing the points. Newtown lost at home to Bangor City 2-1, bettered by two Dean Rittenberg goals either side of their own equaliser.

In mid-table, Bala edged out Llandudno to keep themselves in the European play-off places on Friday night.

Of interest to attendance figures fans, Aberystwyth had the highest gate of the weekend with 373 turning up to Park Avenue on Friday night to see The Seasiders defeat Cefn. The other matches were all watched by around 250 people.

Goal of the weekend came at the Cyncoed Campus from marauding left back Kyle McCarthy who set up the first goal and then smashed in this lovely free-kick.
