Extratime.ie announce May Player/Manager of the Month Awards

Extratime.ie has today announced its award winners for May. There’s a sense of repetitiveness from the Manager awards, as Stephen Henderson and Paul Doolin have both won out over their fellow managers again. Cork City defender, Dan Murray, picked up the Premier Division Player of the Month gong; while Willie John Kiely’s impressive striking form meant he was voted the First Division Player of the Month.

Speaking to extratime.ie after receiving the award, Cork boss Paul Doolin said: “I’m delighted to have won the award and that Dan (Murray) got one too. The defence is key if you want to be up there in this league. This is where people need to realise that if you want to be finishing 29 points behind then play the old way. If you want to be challenging in the league then you want to have a good back five”

Cork had five clean-sheets from the six games played in May, conceding just once and that was against the champions on the final weekend of what was a very successful month. Dan Murray was influential not only at the back, as he scored the winner against Derry City at home in the middle of the month. ““It was nice to score the winner in a big game. That was probably the highlight of the month but every game was great. It’s been our best month so far,” Murray told extratime.ie reporter Alan Smith at the weekend.

Stephen Henderson picked up his second successive plate and his side’s good performance throughout the month was mainly down to striker, Willie John Kiely.

He scored five league goals during May and was thrilled with the award. “Yeah I’m very happy with it, personally, obviously to get an award shows that I’m doing something right and that things are going well, hopefully it can continue.”
