Kildare County -v- Longford Town
Station Road is the venue for Friday night’s lowly clash between two of the First Division’s whipping boys as Longford Town travel to Kildare County (Kick-off 7:30) hoping to notch up their first away win of the campaign. Kildare will be hoping to stop the rot that has seen twelve defeats in a row with the concession of 42 goals, with only four in reply.
The Thoroughbreds will be looking to introduce no less than seven new players in an attempt to change their fortunes around. Three former players return to the squad in the form of Philly Hughes fresh from a stint with Phoenix FC, striker Dean Barrett, and keeper Darren Kelly. Former Kilkenny and Dundalk striker Christy Doran, Adam McGarry, Darren O’Brien and David Jackson have also been signed.
Talking to kildarecountyfc.com, Director of Football Joey Somerville was delighted with the signing and hopes it signals a new beginning for the struggling club.
“This is the first week where we have everybody available to us, all the new lads and with Baba Issaka back suspension we have everybody available to us so really our season starts from here, this is the first time that we have had “our squad” available to us.”
Longford Town are still manager less going into this clash. The club official website states that they hope to have a new person in place before the Cup game on the 14th June. The midland side last won a league game against Kildare County, notching up a four nil win back in March. Since then eleven games have come and gone, nine of which has resulted in defeats.
Extratime.ie Prediction: With only one win so far this season for Longford and none for Kildare, and a whole plethora of defeats, I’m going with the fact both teams can’t lose the same match. Therefore a draw is my prediction.
