Stephen Walsh Betting Column (Aug 18th 2017)
After the weeks break due to the Cup fixtures, we have returned with the column in the hope of raising money for the Cork disability centre.
The picks for this week will include two Premier Division games along with one First Division clash.
First up in our treble we will have Longford Town backed in the midlands derby when they play Athlone Town in the City Calling Stadium. The last time these two sides met in Longford will have gone down in the annals of league of Ireland football for all the wrong reasons.
This week, however I fancy Neal Fenn’s men to prevail and get the three points on Saturday. They are 4/11 with Paddy Power who has sponsored the bet but they should have more than enough to defeat an Athlone Town side who one would assume cannot wait for the season to finish and allow them to rebuild for next season.
My second prediction will be for Bray Wanderers to defeat Drogheda United. Drogheda is all but relegated but they are still going to be a tough side to defeat. Bray have improved slightly in the past few weeks when considering all the things that have happened in the background. They are 8/13 and should easily claim the three points.
Last up in the treble will involve the relegation battle between Finn Harps and St. Patrick’s Athletic. Both teams have had much improved performances of late than at other times in the season while both teams tend to score against each other. A quick look at past stats will show that in the last five games between the sides only once has there been an occasion when both have not scored at the game. This reason we will be backing them at 4/5.
