The Galway Cup is almost upon us and the 2017 tournament was launched a few days ago at NUI Galway by Ireland legend Kevin Kilbane, writes Pete Kelly.
This is the 13th year that the Galway Cup will be played at Salthill Devon’s home in Drom, and runs from the 9th to 12th August - Over fifty teams in five sections will gather in Drom to contest this year's tournament in association with Macron who, once again, are the Official Technical Sponsors of The Galway Cup
Launching the tournament at NUI Galway, legendary Irish international Kevin Kilbane, said, “The Galway Cup is now one of the finest underage events in Europe, with all games played in one outstanding venue, it is a great way to challenge young player,, and I would recommend the event to academies and clubs who are looking to develop young players. I’m delighted to announce Macron as the Technical Sponsor”.
Clubs from across Ireland the UK, will be joined by teams from Europe and the USA, with the 2002 Elite section this year will feature Leeds United, Shamrock Rovers, Salthill Devon, Galway United, Dungannon Swifts and Leixlip United.
The 2004 Elite will see the cream of Ireland’s thirteen year olds do battle in what has become a tremendous showcase. Colorado Rapids make their third successive trip to the tournament hoping to retain the U13 section they have won on each of their previous visits.
