Shelbourne welcome Monaghan United to Tolka Park on Friday night as they look to leapfrog Sporting Fingal and return to third place in the First Division. (Kick off 20:00).

Both teams come into the game having gained victories in last week’s fixtures. Shelbourne came from behind away to Wexford to take all three points from the Youths, thanks to two goals in a minute from Paddy Madden and Anto Flood. United have recently hit form and have strung together a five game unbeaten run with four victories and a draw, the latest of which being a two nil win over Longford Town.

When the sides last met in March this year , Shelbourne came away from Kingspan Century Park with the three points, courtesy of a 65th minute goal scored by Anto Flood in a game that could have gone either way right to the final whistle.

In Shelbourne team news, Dermot Keely will have to plan without David McAllister after he picked up a red card last week, and Alan Keely is not match fit yet.

Monaghan manager Mick Cooke knows his team will be in for a tough game, but is confident they can get all three points.

“As with all our recent meetings with Shelbourne, I would expect this to be a tough game. Dermot Keely has his team playing great football and right up there in the promotion battle so we will have to make sure that we go out there and compete well against them. We have some ground to make up on where we want to be but in recent weeks we have been putting together a good run and we would be confident that we can continue to move up the table.”

Cooke will have to plan without the services of the suspended David Freeman, but has no injury worries.

Extratime.ie Prediction: Shelbourne to win by two goals to one. Paddy Madden to get on the score sheet.
