Cork City bolster squad with addition of UCC's Sean O'Mahony
Cork City FC have snapped up the services of defender Seán O’Mahony from Munster Senior League side UCC until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old has previously spent time with Cobh Ramblers, making his senior debut in a 2-2 draw with Finn Harps in May of 2013 before going on to make a further 16 appearances over the next two seasons.
He signed for UCC shortly after his release from Cobh and won the Munster Senior League Player of the Year in 2015/16 as well as the Collingwood Cup in 2015 and the Beamish Stout Senior Premier Division this season.
“This season has been going very well for City, I’m very happy to have agreed a contract for the remainder of the season.” O’Mahony told the official club website.
“I’m looking forward to putting on the jersey, and will be happy to get as much playing time as possible,” he continued.
Cork manager John Caulfield also commented on the new arrival, stating; “We’re delighted to have Seán sign for us. He’ll join up with squad on Monday and get into training.
“He’s a strong defender and we’re delighted to bring him in. We’ve been monitoring his progress at UCC. He’s a local lad, we’re delighted to bring him up to another level.”
O’Mahony will hope to force his way into the squad when City return from the mid-season break.
The Leesiders face Wilton United in the final of the Munster Senior Cup on the 12th of June, before returning to League action against Limerick just four days later at Turners Cross.
