"Limerick will be up for it" – Kenna

Speaking after Monday night’s live FAI Ford Cup Third Round Draw, St Patrick’s Athletic manager Jeff Kenna was looking forward to a tough tie away at Limerick, fully aware of the impact Pat Scully has made since his arrival earlier in the season.

“It’s a tough draw, particularly because it’s away. Pat (Scully) will have them very well organised, very fit, they’ve had a few good results of late so it will be tricky enough.”

Kenna realises the difficulty with bringing his Premier Division side to a First Division venue, and the fixture should garner interest amongst Limerick fans, especially considering the family ties involved - Kenna and Scully are second cousins. When Kenna arrived in Ireland, Scully was in charge of one of the capital’s biggest clubs while Kenna took charge of a relatively obscure club on the West coast; how times have changed.

“I’d have rathered a home draw but we are away so we just have to get on with it. I would believe this will be a big game for (Limerick). It will generate a lot of interest locally. I would imagine there would be a decent crowd so they will be up for it.”

Following last Friday’s narrow victory over Dundalk at Oriel Park, Kenna’s St Pat’s sit in sixth place in the league, and have slowly began to turn things around after a run of four losses in a row.

“We’re not going well yet. We’ve turned a bit of a corner with two results back-to-back after a poor run of form so we need to keep going and keep building and hopefully we can get a couple of good results in before we go down to Limerick.”
