Crumlin ecstatic with "home" draw
Crumlin United manager Martin Loughran was delighted to see his side drawn against fellow Dubliners Shelbourne in the Third Round of the FAI Ford Cup on Monday night.
“It was a great draw. Any one of the League of Ireland Dublin teams, at home, is exactly what we wanted. They are a First Division team, they are one of the top sides in Dublin, no matter what way you look at it they’re favourites.” said Loughran.
The venue of the fixture is yet to be confirmed, however, with Crumlin unsure whether they are fit to host the tie.
“Whether or not we can play it in our home ground now, I don’t know yet. We are not sure. We would obviously have to get the League of Ireland officials to check the ground to see if it is acceptable. It would depend on the type of support Shelbourne would be able to get, I don’t know,” said Loughran.
When asked where a possible alternative would be, St Patrick’s Athletic's home ground of Richmond Park was one place Loughran suggested. “Hopefully we get it at home but if we don’t we might have to look at Richmond Park but we’ll see.”
Another snag with the tie is the date. Crumlin would ideally like the fixture brought forward due to international commitments by some of their players, however as Shelbourne themselves have some fixture worries, this remains unresolved for now.
“The problem is the date it is down for (13/14th June) we have two lads away on amateur international duty so we are trying to get the game moved forward to the ninth instead,” added Loughran.
