Tralee hopeful of progression to next round
Tralee Dynamo’s Brian Fitzgerald spoke with extratime.ie on Monday night after seeing his team awarded a home tie against Salthill Devon in the Third Round of the FAI Ford Cup in June. Fitzgerald was happy to see his Kerry club come out on the left hand side of the draw, and thus host the fixture, giving great belief that they could well progress even further in the cup.
“It’s good. It was a good draw. You are just hoping for a home draw to be honest, anything else is a bonus,” he said.
Tralee are the first Kerry side to be represented in the draw and Fitzgerald was a little disappointed not to get a glamour tie against one of the big clubs.
“It would have been nice to get a bigger side but we’ll take it. We’re both in different sections of our league, they’re on the top of their side and we are third or fourth on our side so it should be really tight actually.”
“We have never played them because they’re on the other side but there is a chance that we could get them again later on in the year if we qualify from our section.”
With the likes of Bohemians, Derry City and St Patrick’s Athletic as possible teams to visit Tralee, should they see off Salthill and qualify for the fourth round, Fitzgerald admitted “it would be great to get through to the next round.”
