Heary aware of Mervue threat

Dundalk defender Thomas Heary has warned his side against any complacency in their FAI Cup third round tie against Mervue United. Heary, who lifted the cup last year with Bohemians, feels his side
won’t have an easy passage into the next round. “Mervue is definitely a banana skin. I know that they started their season off a bit slow, maybe because it’s their first season in the First Division. But they have picked up a great result against Fingal recently so we will be under no illusions about what’s in store.”
The Lilywhites have a fantastic record in the FAI Cup, winning it nine times, and Heary is fully focused on the job at hand. “The club have a great cup pedigree so we know we are a great scalp for them but we have a job to do so we will go down there looking for the win.”
It’s been an eventful week at Oriel Park to say the least. Friday’s defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic was overshadowed by the club's decision to sack Dave Rogers for mooning. Heary says that the current squad is more than capable of doing well in the league, but admits that more signings may be required. “There is enough quality in the squad at the moment. Obviously the bigger the squad the more pressure there is on players to perform well each week. I’m sure that the manager has one or two things in the pipeline but nothing is definite at the moment. We will have to wait and see what happens.”
Sean Connor’s men host Sligo Rovers on Friday night and a win for Lilywhites will see them leapfrog the Bit O’Red in the table. Dundalk have only won two of their fixtures at Oriel Park so far this season and Heary expects another tough game. “Every time that we have played them it’s been very tight. They are always tough games against Sligo because they are a great team with some tough players so we will be expecting a very hard game on Friday.”
