Mathews departs Longford Town by mutual consent
Longford Town tonight announced in the aftermath of their 5-0 victory over bottom side Wexford that manager Alan Mathews had left the club by mutual consent.
Longford would have been expected by many to challenge for the promotion places in the First Division but that has not happened so far for the midlands based side.
The club released a short statement on social media within an hour of the final whistle last night saying that the manager who only joined the club late last season will be leaving City Calling Stadium for the second time in his managerial career.
Statement in full:
Longford Town wish to announce that by mutual consent, the club and manager Alan Matthews have parted ways. We thank Alan for his efforts and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
Gary Cronin will take charge of the first team for next week’s game vs Shelbourne.
