Harps’ Happy Home
Finn Harps Chairman Derek Wilkinson was relieved to see his side come out on the home side of the FAI Ford Cup Third Round Draw on Monday night at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin, which saw Galway United emerge as the visitors to Ballybofey.
“It’s a home tie, it’s what we wanted. We had some tough ties with Galway last year and as I say, it won’t be easy but at least we’re at home,” said Wilkinson, who had been nervously looking at the possible trips the Donegal side could have had to make had the draw been a little less kind.
Harps have had a tough time since being relegated from the top flight of Irish football. Currently sitting third bottom, the Ballybofey outfit are a whopping 19 points off second placed, and fellow 2008 relegation side, UCD - Waterford United lead the league on goal difference.
“We have had it tough this season but we aren’t losing by much, every game has been close.”
“The situation we’re in at the moment is we have a very young team and they’re just gelling together at this stage. With a few more games under our belt, hopefully we’ll be up for it,” added Wilkinson.
Elsewhere in the draw, Wilkinson commented on some of the other ties.
“Crumlin will be delighted (with drawing Shelbourne at home) but Cork City v Sligo Rovers is probably the best game of the lot I would think,” he said.
