Stephen Walsh Betting Column (May 19th 2017)

Another week in which we failed to hit the jackpot. That line has been written way too many times this year and we really need to get it moving so as to get a few quid raised for worthy causes.

Regarding last week, we again hit the crossbar with two out of three bets winning. The losing leg was Cork City who drew with Galway 1-1 for their first dropped points in 13 games. The other two bets were okay but this week we hope to have a three out of three.

First up in the treble will be Bray Wanderers. The Wicklow men have had a good season so far and will be looking to beat a Bohemians team who are fighting a relegation battle this season. Dylan Connolly and Gary McCabe have been exceptional this year in the majority of their games and I think they are worth backing at 8/13.

Second up in the treble will be Galway United at 11/10. Yes one might consider it mad backing a team with only one solitary league win this season but despite all this they have been playing well and just haven’t got the rub of the green. Playing at home is a big bonus for the Tribesmen as they have made it tough for visiting sides this season.

Finn Harps are another team who are fighting a relegation battle and a lack of firepower has not helped them this year and with this I can see them losing.

Now lastly we come to the minefield that is the first division. We have been spot on the last few weeks so hopefully this side of the bet will hold up. It will be the game in Ferrycarrig Park tomorrow tonight between Wexford and Shelbourne. The home side have yet to taste victory this season but still despite this they have created a number of chances. It has just been the finishing off of the moves that has proved a problem so far this season. Shelbourne have been both good and awful this season and they have a very good striker in Dale Rooney who has found the net a few times this year.

Both teams haven’t got many clean sheets this season so as a result I can see both teams scoring at odds of 11/8.
