League Preview: Derry City -v- Limerick

DERRY CITY

The Candystripes come into this re-scheduled league game with Limerick (kick-off 7.45pm) after salvaging a point away to Sligo Rovers on Saturday night.

Before gaining the valuable point at the Showgrounds Derry were defeated four times in a row, their worst run under Kenny Shiels.

Shiels will now be hoping his side can start climbing the league table with a win against Limerick on Tuesday night.

Speaking before the game Shiels said: "Limerick are a good team but a win would take us above them in the table."

"If we can produce a good performance and put away our chances, hopefully we have the right tactics to get the right result."

The Foylersiders are still without Aaron McEneff and Rory Patterson through injury but should welcome Barry McNamee back to the starting line-up.

"Barry's experience would be of great benefit to the team and would boost the dynamic of the team," argued the Derry boss.

"We have played well at Maginn Park this season, with the exception of the game with Finn Harps, and our only other poor display was away to Cork," he added.

LIMERICK

Limerick go to Maginn Park tomorrow night unbeaten in their last three matches in the Premier Division.

Having scored 5 goals and conceded none in the games against St. Pat’s and Drogheda United, Limerick were held to a draw by a late Galway goal last Friday evening.

While disappointed not to have taken three points, Boland had plenty of positives for his squad in preparation for the match ahead. 

“You don’t just dwell on the second-half of the third game, you look back at the last three games and see how well you’ve done.

“You’ve got seven points out of nine games, you’ve done well. If you said before those games that you’d take seven points out of nine you would have taken it.

“They’re a good bunch of lads. They’re disappointed with the result but at the same time they’re professional and ready for the game against Derry and they’ll be focused.

“It’s a chance for us to go up there, be positive and try to get a decent result.”

This game was originally to be played in March before being abandoned because of floodlight failure.

The scores were tied at 1-1 before the match was abandoned earlier this season.

Limerick beat the Candystripes in the EA Sports Cup semi-final last year.
