Seani Maguire crowned SWAI player of the month for March
Sean Maguire is the one League Of Ireland player that everybody is talking about at the moment.
So there will be few surprised to learn he has been named the SSE Airtricity League/Soccer Writers' Association Of Ireland player of the month for March.
The 22-year-old has been in red hot goalscoring form in the 2017 season thus far, scoring eight goals in eight games.
Maguire's contribution in front of goal has played a big part in Cork City's excellent start to the season, which has seen them win all eight of their league games played to date.
Maguire has been linked with a number of English clubs in recent times.
Although all the talk about clubs cross channel monitoring him could be understandably seen as a distraction, he has shown how level headed he can be by illustrating that his main priority at the moment is to help play his role in Cork City winning the Premier Division title.
"Whenever you're playing well in this league there is always going to be rumours,” the Kilkenny native said.
“It's flattering but there's only one thing I'm concentrating on and that's Cork City and trying to win the league for them.
"I don't think everyone has seen the best of this team or even myself yet. I still fell like I can improve."
If that is to be the case, League Of Ireland defences will have more reason to be concerned about the man who scored the winning goal in the 2016 FAI Cup final.
Maguire saw off competition from the late Derry City captain Ryan McBride and also Dundalk's Patrick McEleney.
Although he has grabbed most of the headlines since the start of the season, Maguire feels that a number of his City teammates could easily have won the player of the month award for March.
"There was a couple of lads in the squad who were unlucky not to win this, Gearóid Morrissey to name one. There are a lot of individuals in the team playing well.
"It's nice to have eight wins from eight but we've got to keep our feet on the ground. Confidence is a massive factor in winning games and we've got to make sure we keep that going.
"This is my first one so winning it is great. I feel like I've really improved from last year, both physically and mental.
“The off season is great for enjoying yourself but I always kept one eye on the new season and I worked really hard in pre season to make sure I was ready," added Maguire.
The striker will be hoping that he can maintain that goal scoring touch in Dalymount Park on Friday night, as City make the trip to face Bohemians looking to maintain their 100% winning start to the season.
