Brady scoops trio of prizes at FAI International Awards

Robbie Brady was the star attraction at the 2016 Three FAI International Football Awards picking up a triple of prizes.

The Burnley midfielder collected three accolades – the first time a player has been so honoured at the Awards Ceremony, which was held at the RTE Studios in Donnybrook.

The 25-year-old scooped the two main awards as he was crowned Senior International Player of the Year ahead of former St. Kevin’s Boys clubmate Jeff Hendrick and current Ireland captain Seamus Coleman.

Brady was again preferred to Burnley clubmate Hendrick and Brighton’s Shane Duffy in the contest for Young International Player of the Year.

Not surprisingly, Brady’s late header from a Wes Hoolahan cross that defeated Italy at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille was named as the Three International Goal of the Year.

And in a week when the footballing fortunes of Ireland and Wales will intertwine, former Welsh striker John Hartson received the International Personality gong.

Dundalk’s domestic and European exploits were recognised with Daryl Horgan (now making a big impression in the Championship at Preston North End) chosen as SSE Airtricity League Player of the Year and the team picking up a Special Merit award.

Kilkenny native Karen Duggan (UCD Waves) claimed the Senior Women's International Player of the Year honour and was presented with the award by her new international team boss Colin Bell.

Ireland’s record goalscorer, 146 times capped Robbie Keane, was inducted into the Three FAI International Football Hall of Fame.

A total of 21 awards were presented, acclaiming all aspects of Irish football in 2016, with players from the senior men's team to the FAI Football For All programme recognised.
