Caulfield happy with first home league victory of the season

Before starting his press conference on Friday night in the aftermath of his side’s comprehensive 4-0 victory over bottom side Galway United, John Caulfield kept the assembled press waiting to ask questions as he wanted to put on record his appreciation of the work the ground staff did in ensuring the match went ahead despite the inclement weather.

“Well done to Ger Delaney and Stephen the grounds man for getting the game to go ahead as this morning the pitch wasn’t playable, lunchtime was border line and tonight the surface was phenomenal. You can see why there hasn’t been a game postponed here in over eight years.”

Caulfield acknowledged that his side were not at their best in the opening period of the game and Galway could have taken the lead.

“To be fair in the first half Galway came at us and we were a bit disjointed in the opening half. They weren’t creating anything but they had a lot of possession and were dangerous.”

However, everything good with the rebel army in recent times has involved their striker Sean Maguire with Caulfield acknowledging this afterwards to the press while giving an update on the hamstring injury that caused the star to leave the field after 61 minutes.

“Every time we broke we looked dangerous with Seani up front. He had a shot earlier that Nugent made a superb save but scored soon after.

“He has a slight strain, so he asked to be taken off so we did that bringing on Sheppard gave us another option. He should be okay for next week.”
