Delaney delighted with first City goal

Ryan Delaney was delighted with the result on Friday night and his goal in Cork City’s 4-0 victory over Galway United at Turner’s Cross.

 

The New Ross native described it as “a very good result” even if it was “a tough game to get into.”

 

The player, on loan from Championship side Burton Albion until July, scored after 53 minutes with the Leesiders winning 1-0 at that stage.

 

He explained after City’s second successive win of the season that his goal came from a move that City had worked on in training.

 

“In the first half we didn’t create much but the second half we were much better. I’m happy to get on the score sheet. It was a routine from the training ground.

 



"I try to peel around to the back post and luckily I got myself half a yard. They don’t come around too much. I only have three since my senior debut.”

 

City’s goals were spread between Delaney, Stephen Dooley, Connor Ellis and Sean Maguire (who scored the winner last week up in Finn Park). With back-to-back wins, City came out of the game on Friday top of the very early season table.

 

The centre half has settled in well on Leeside since moving over in January. “I’m enjoying it here in Cork; there is always something to do; plenty of places to eat when you get free time.”

 



Asked by extratime.ie does he see much of a difference between City and Burton Albion he said that “the standard here is very professional. We do double sessions here and I find they will improve me a lot.

 

“I can keep improving here and obviously over in Burton I matured a lot. You kind of have to man up and mature a little bit more as you are more on your own.”
