Stephen Walsh Betting Column (Mar 3 2017)
Well, last week didn’t work out entirely as expected and we suffered our first loss of the campaign.
But, as with all things, one can’t win every time so we are back to the drawing board for this week in the hope of raising money for a charitable cause.
At the time of writing no charity has contacted Extratime HQ so if one knows of a worthy cause send it our way so we can discuss how we can assist them.
A quick recap on last week’s bets shows Limerick were the only successful tip from the treble with both Waterford and Shamrock Rovers losing, to Athlone Town and Dundalk respectively.
Paddy Power have kindly sponsored the bet for this week’s treble so all bets will be priced by them. And they're offering us special enhanced odds for our trio of picks, which we'll explain later.
First up in the selection is Cork City -1 (10/11) versus Galway United. The Leesiders are hoping for their first back to back victories at the start of a league season since 2003, when they defeated Shelbourne and UCD respectively.
On the back of a 1-0 victory away to Finn Harps, the home side will be buoyed by a large crowd and a better footballing surface that should help them produce goals.
Galway, on the other hand, went down 1-0 to Drogheda United at home. While they will be keen to bounce back, I believe that the home side will be too strong.
Second up for the treble will be another -1 bet, this time for Bray Wanderers (15/8) over Finn Harps.
The Seagulls have recruited many experienced players over the winter and if they are to keep up their stated ambition of Europe then they will need to score a few here to put down a marker to the other teams in the league.
Lastly, so as not to exclude the First Division, Longford Town (4/6) will be expected to defeat Cobh Ramblers. Both sides had draws on the opening week and I think that the home side will emerge victorious as they have the stronger side.
This treble would normally work out at around 8/1, with a stake of €5 yielding €45.74, however Padd Power have kindly bumped the odds up to 9/1 if you follow this link and select the Extratime.ie Enhanced Treble.
