Akinade misses opening league game and ruled out pending surgery

Ismahil Akinade did not feature for Bohemians in the February 24th SSE Airtricity League season opener against Derry City. In a statement released the club revealed that on medical advice, the Dalymount Park club have decided not to risk the Nigerian born striker.

Akinade had been diagnosed with a low platelet count problem and surgery was scheduled for the Mater Hospital last month. Specialists decided not to perform the operation so that further tests could be carried out.

Thankfully, those tests confirmed no further issues and Bohemians were awaiting confirmation of a new date for the original operation. Initially, it was anticipated that the former Bray Wanderers star could resume playing whilst awaiting surgery.

The player himself was anxious to play but, acting on best medical advice, Bohemians have rightly decided not to play him until the essential medical treatment has been carried out.

The Bohemians press release concluded, “The well-being of our players is of the utmost importance to the management team and club and we will adhere to that advice.”

Ismail Akinade has scored 15 goals in 37 appearances for Bohs.
