GOALSCORERS

The race for top net-finder in the First Division is hotting up, with nine players within three goals of joint-leaders Graham Cummins, Willie John Kiely, and Ciaran Kilduff. Kilduff missed the chance to edge ahead on Saturday night when he had a penalty saved in Athlone, while neither of the Waterford hit-men managed a goal against the cannon fodder brigade known as Kildare County.

The First Division has managed to maintain its high goal-per-game average at 2.61. 154 goals have been scored in 59 games by 73 different players.
Shelbourne's malaise in front of goals is again best illustrated by the fact that only four of their players have managed to find the net. Apart from Kildare, who would have five if own-goals were included, most of the other sides average 7-8 different scorers.
