Waterford sign former Ireland and Spurs under-21 winger Kenny McEvoy
Waterford have further underlined their promotion credentials by announcing former Tottenham Hotspur starlet Kenny McEvoy as their latest signing.
McEvoy, who can who operate on either flank, had been attracting interest from Premier Division sides before putting pen to paper on a one-year deal with his hometown club.
He had been training with Waterford over the past week and featured in the second half of a pre-season friendly at Tramore AFC on Tuesday night, scoring the fourth goal as The Blues easily ran out 4-0 winners.
The 22-year-old took to Twitter to express his delight afterwards, tweeting: “Delighted to sign for my hometown club Waterford and score for them in my first pre-season game tonight. Big season ahead.”
The news comes just days after the acquisition of Estonian international midfielder Sander Puri, taking the total number of new arrivals at the RSC to 13.
McEvoy started his professional career with Tottenham Hotspur but two appearances on the substitutes bench during their 2013/14 Europa League campaign was the closest he ever got to first-team affairs at Spurs.
Loan spells with Peterborough United, Colchester United, Stevenage and York City followed during a period which also saw him capped at under-21 level for the Republic of Ireland.
His move to York was made permanent before McEvoy dropped down the leagues, most recently representing South Normanton Athletic of the East Midlands Counties League.
