Limerick land Chiedozie Ogbene from Cork City
First Division Champions Limerick have announced the signing of Chiedozie Ogbene from Munster rivals Cork City.
The 19-year-old attacker had been training with the club in previous days and the club tweeted they “are delighted” to have secured his services for 2017.
A four-minute outing in late 2015 against Bohemians was Ogbene’s league debut, before the pacey teenager had forced his way into John Caulfield’s plans during 2016.
He went on to net three times in eight Premier Division games, including a brace against Wexford Youths.
His final outing for City off the bench in the FAI Cup Final, as the Leesiders beat Dundalk in dramatic fashion. Ogbene was an influential figure for City’s U19 side as they won the 2015 title, defeating Limerick in the final.
As a result, the side featured in Uefa Youth League ties, where Ogbene played in ties against Helsinski and Roma.
Ogbene joins winter acquisitions Ian Turner and Dean Clarke at Limerick, who also have Stephen Kenny, Chris Mulhall and John O’Flynn to call upon in attack.
Martin Russell's side kick off their 2017 league campaign with a home tie with Sligo Rovers on February 25th.
