Dundalk's longest-serving player John Mountney signs new deal
Dundalk’s longest-serving player John Mountney has re-signed with the club for a sixth successive season at Oriel Park.
Mountney and midfield colleague Chris Shields are the only players from their dreadful 2012 campaign to still be playing for Dundalk and today’s news means that the Mayoman will do so once again in 2017.
The wide man, who has made 188 appearances during his stint in the border town, was signed by former manager Sean McCaffrey from Mervue United and he’s undergone an extraordinary physical and technical transformation since Stephen Kenny took charge of the club.
He featured in five of the Lilywhites’ six Europa League group stage matches last season while also being a regular member of the side that captured the last three SSE Airtricity League Premier Division crowns.
In all, Mountney has won six domestic honours with Dundalk with the EA Sports, FAI and President’s Cup accompanying his league title hat-trick.
