Finn Harps sign Galway defender Killian Cantwell

Finn Harps have announced the signing of defender Killian Cantwell from Galway United.

21-year-old Cantwell arrives following two seasons with the Tribesmen

The Kilkenny man played under-19s football with UCD and Waterford United before joining the senior ranks at Wexford Youths in 2014, missing only one game during the season.

He signed for Tommy Dunne’s Tribesmen in 2015 but suffered an injury-marred first season in which he made nine appearances including the EA Sports Cup Final loss to St Patrick's Athletic.

His second season in Galway saw him play 25 games, 17 from the start, scoring once.

“We’re very pleased to get a central defender of Killian’s stature on board for the new season,” Harps manager Ollie Horgan told the club's website.

“He’s a young lad who has a lot of experience already in League of Ireland football.”

Cantwell adds cover to the Harps backline with Keith Cowan not expected to feature at all in the coming season having picked up a serious injury against CorkCity at the end of last year.

Harps face Longford Town in a friendly at City Calling Stadium on February 4th as they prepare for their season opener at home to Cork City on the 24th
