Waterford confirm underage backroom appointments
Waterford have today confirmed the appointments of new managers for the club’s under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 teams.
Former player Francis Rockett has been put in charge of the under-15s, who will begin their campaign in August of this year in the inaugural season for this age group at League of Ireland level. Rockett will be assisted by Peter Higgins.
Top Waterford schoolboys coach John Furlong will take the reins at the Under-17s with former Wexford Youths Ladies coach Gary Hunt assisting him for the upcoming season.
The under-19s will be under the care of two former Blues legends with David Breen and Paul Cashin at the helm, both having a wealth of playing experience at senior level.
Gary Power also takes over as Head of Youth Development after managing the Under-17s last year, with Billy Hearne rounding out the appointments as Head of Academy Goalkeeping.
“I’m delighted with this new role. I had two fantastic seasons as head coach of U17s and we had great success.” Said Gary Power.
“This role will involve the overseeing of all three teams. It's a new challenge for me but I'm looking forward to it.” He later added.
General Manager Paul Cleary commented on the new appointments also stating, “The future of the club depends on being sustainable and by developing good young players.
“This coaching staff gives us every chance of achieving that.
“I welcome the appointments of our underage coaches, all of whom have great connections with Waterford and I wish them every success for the season ahead.”
