Cobh Ramblers appoint Stuart Ashton as assistant manager

Cobh Ramblers have announced that Stuart Ashton has been appointed assistant manager to Stephen Henderson for the 2017 season.

Ashton is one of the most knowledgeable and respected football men on Leeside, having spent much of his coaching career with Cork City.

He served most recently for the Rebel Army as Youth Liaison Manager, while he was previously the manager of the under-21 and under-19 sides at the club.

In 2013, Ashton was the caretaker manager of the first team squad, prior to John Caulfield's appointment.

One of the main plus points which Ashton will bring with him to Cobh is his ability to get the best out of young players.

At City, Ashton helped to bring young players through to first-team football, including Brian Lenihan (now of Hull City), Alan Browne (Preston North End) and John Kavanagh.

"Stuart’s appointment fits in perfectly with the Cobh Ramblers philosophy of identifying and developing young players and providing a complete pathway to senior League of Ireland football,” said Henderson.

"Generally regarded as one of the best coaches in Ireland, Stuart is a holder of the prestigious UEFA PRO licence and this will be pivotal as we proceed to assist all current Cobh Ramblers coaches in obtaining the highest standards of coaching excellence.

"I am delighted that Stuart has decided to come on board with us as first team head coach. It is a fantastic opportunity to improve our club by bringing in such a highly qualified and respected individual.”

Henderson has a talented young side as his disposal and the addition of Ashton to his coaching team is very likely going to have a positive impact on this side's development.
