Damien McNulty commits to Harps for 2017
Finn Harps were further boosted ahead of their 2017 campaign with the news that Damien McNulty will remain with the club for a fifth season.
The robust defender has been a fixture at Finn Park since January 2013 and has contributed richly to the Ballybofey club’s promotion in November 2015 and to their consolidation in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division since then.
A knee injury and suspension restricted McNulty somewhat during 2016 but he still made 24 League appearances in Harps colours.
Having become a Finn Harps player during Peter Hutton’s reign as manager, McNulty made his debut against Waterford United and went on to appear fifteen times for the Harps that season. The now 25-year-old scored three times for the Donegal side during his 25 matches in 2014.
2015 saw Finn Harps promoted to the Premier Division after beating UCD and Limerick in the play-offs. McNulty was a crucial member of the Harps eleven in all four play-off matches. He had scored two goals during 21 appearances during the regular league campaign.
The versatile Damien McNulty, who can play at centre back or at right back, started at NIFL club Limavady United. After playing just one game for the Co. Derry outfit, McNulty switched to neighbours Coleraine, for whom he made 10 league appearances during the 2011/12 season.
Harps manager Ollie Horgan is pleased to capture the stalwart’s signature again.
“Damien has been a key player for me over the past two seasons,” he said.
“He’s a defender and has done that job very well for us against very talented forwards in the Premier Division last season.
“I’m very pleased that he has agreed terms, and one thing about Damian is he won’t let the team down when going gets tough, which it will do against quality sides in this league.”
