Danny Morrissey joins Finn Harps

Finn Harps have completed the signing of striker Danny Morrissey from Cork City.

Morrissey is set to move away from Cork for the first time in his senior football career having arrived at Turners Cross aged 16 in 2010.

Between injuries and senior players like Mark O’Sullivan and Sean Maguire getting in his way of a first team place, starts within the first team have been few and far between for Morrissey during his lengthy stay with the Rebels.

2011 saw Morrissey appear for City’s first team for the first time, he went onto make four more appearances as City captured the First Division title. 2012 was a similar story for the young front man, this time making just three appearances under Tommy Dunne.

2013 saw Morrissey’s breakthrough with the Munster outfit.  That year he netted nine league goals, including a hatrick in a 4-1 win against Derry City at Turners Cross.

After numerous closed-season trials with British clubs, Morrissey returned to Cork for 2014, only for his momentum to be halted by injury, which allowed him to make just seven appearances, all as a substitute. 2015 saw him make 17 appearances, but the form of Sean Maguire in 2016 limited his chances and has thus decided to move on.

Morrissey represents Ollie Horgan’s first new signing ahead of 2017.  However, Ryan McConnell, Ciaran Coll and Gareth Harkin have all re-signed ahead of the new campaign.
