Daryl Horgan: We're disappointed but still confident

Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan was visibly disappointed when speaking in the aftermath of Thursday night’s defeat to AZ Alkmaar in Tallaght.

In what was a frustrating night for the Lilywhites, Wout Weghorst’s ninth minute strike settled the match as the visitors skipped ahead of Stephen Kenny’s men and into pole position to qualify as runners-up from Group D.

Horgan admitted that the foreboding feeling in the dressing room was disappointment after the game.

“It’s very very disappointing. We probably didn’t play as well as we could have and conceded a bad goal in the end, that’s it I suppose,” Horgan said.

Dundalk have a record of pulling out top drawer performances in do-or-die situations and they will have to do so once again if they are to get the required result in Israel in December.

The Lilywhites’ Galweigan flanker is confident though that they can at least keep up their end of the bargain by winning on matchday six even if they are relying on Zenit to do them a favour in Alkmaar.

“We’ve definitively a great chance, unfortunately it is not in our own hands any more but if we do go to Israel and get a result, a draw could well be good enough but we’ll be going all out to win.”
