Previous to his SSE Airtricity League days, Cregg spent a number of years playing across the Bristish aisles.
At the age of 16, Cregg joined Arsenal where he remained for three years before moving onto Scotland, where he dawned the shirts of Falkirk, Hibernian and St Mirren, all before 2010.
During the summer of 2011, Cregg returned to England to play for Bury, however, Cregg lasted just a season before returning to Scotland to play with St Johnstone before a move to Shamrock Rovers in August of 2014.
The arrival of 30-year-old Cregg adds to the excitement felt by Saints fans after the arrival of Gavin Peers from Sligo Rovers last weekend.
In recent days, Ian Bermingham, Michael Barker and Conan Byrne have also re-signed for the 2017 campaign.
