Seven players re-sign with Shels
Shelbourne have announced the re-signing of six players from the 2016 squad ahead of 2017, while under 19 captain Dayle Rooney has also been promoted to Owen Heary’s senior squad.
23 year-old Reece McEnteer is set for his first full season at Tolka Park after arriving from Leinster Senior League side Glebe North in July of this year.
Another member of the Shelbourne rear-guard re-signing is 18 year-old James Brown. Brown was promoted to the Reds first team by former manager Kevin Doherty back in April and appeared in match day squads throughout the 2016 campaign.
Heary has also managed to re-sign three of last season’s midfield players.
Dylan Kavanagh is set for a second season with Shels after joining from Shamrock Rovers in December of 2015. Kavanagh’s versatility would have made him an attractive option for Heary, as he is comfortable on the left flank, as well as left full-back and in central midfield.
Another Dylan to have re-signed for 2017, is 18 year-old Dylan Grimes. The exciting, attacking midfielder arrived from Home Farm mid-way through 2014 and was brought into the Reds first team squad by Kevin Doherty during pre-season of 2016.
An older member of the midfield, 23 year-old Lorcan Shannon has also committed to Heary for 2017. Shannon, who arrived at Tolka Park late last year also has experience playing with Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk, Bohemians and Longford Town, while he played his schoolboy football with Home Farm.
22 year-old Adam Evans has re-signed after joining Shels from rivals Bohemians this past summer. Evans, who also had spells with Burnley and Inverness Caledonian Thistle is joined by Dayle Rooney in an attacking duo staying with Shels for 2017.
The Tolka Park club have promised more signings will follow in the weeks and months to come.
