Gavin Brennan joins Drogheda United

Drogheda United manager Pete Mahon has begun the process of building his Premier Division squad for the 2017 season with the announcement today that former captain Gavin Brennan has re-joined the club.

Brennan first signed for Drogheda in 2011 in a season where he was named the club's Player of the Year. Brennan remained at his hometown club for a further three seasons before joining his brother Ryan at Shamrock Rovers ahead of the 2015 season.

Brennan would go on to score three goals in 27 league appearances in his first season at Rovers, as well as scoring in the Europa League against Odds. Brennan re-signed for Rovers for the 2016 season but left the club in September following a falling out with manager Stephen Bradley.

Speaking following the announcement, Mahon expressed his delight at having signed a player as passionate about Drogheda as Brennan.

“We are delighted to have Gavin on board for next season. He is a quality Premier Division player that is comfortable playing in a number of positions.

“The fact that he is a local lad will bring a bit of extra interest to the town and I know from meeting Gavin and from listening to others how passionate he is about the club. I am hoping Gavin will play a big role in us having a successful season.”
