Cork City to launch schools programme with Clonakilty Food Co.

A season-long schools programme, to be initiated by Cork City later in November, will welcome primary schools across the Cork region to participate in a scheme that is aimed at rewarding and inspiring students, their teachers and parents.

The 2016 FAI Cup winners’ partners in this initiative are Clonakilty Food Co., producers of Clonakilty Sausages and the renowned Clonakilty black pudding. It is a renewal of existing arrangements between City and their sponsors as part of the club’s City in the Community work.

Cork City FC is keenly involved in the support of community events and causes in communities across the city and county, befitting its status as a football club owned by its supporters. The club to hopes to widen this backing to young fans throughout the county through the City in the Community schools programme and motivate the next cohort of players.

Cork City FC’s senior players will play a central role in the programme in recognition of Clonakilty Food Co.’s vital role in the club’s success over the past four years.  Clonakilty, who will remain a key premier partner for 2017, share the club’s community centred values and are strong advocates of the absolute impact that local sport and its stars can have in a community.

“I am delighted Clonakilty Sausages will continue its successful partnership with Cork City FC,” said Colette Twomey, Owner, Clonakilty Food Co. “It has been an exciting journey over the past four years and we are happy to be playing a central role in the next phase of the club’s growth.”

“We are a family brand, and as a result always look for opportunities to bring those family sensibilities into our products and partnerships. An opportunity to support the young families of this fantastic county through this City in the Community programme felt like a natural progression in our partnership with Cork City FC and a perfect fit for our brand.”

Lisa Fallon, Business Development Manager, Cork City FC, commented: “The local community lies at the absolute core of what FORAS and Cork City Football Club stand for. The last three seasons have seen unprecedented growth in our recent history and this schools initiative in association with Clonakilty Food Co. is a unique and exciting departure from a player development and community point of view.”

“Clonakilty Food Co. have been an integral part of our success since 2012 and this new initiative further enhances our mutual commitment to enriched brand development and partnership whilst building stronger relationships within our local communities.”

Full details of the City in the Community schools programme will be revealed during its official launch to schools later this month.
