Fenlon happy as Gypsies progress
Pat Fenlon was happy with Bohs extra time victory over local rivals Shelbourne last night, acknowledging Graham Carey’s performance as a particular highlight.
“He (Carey) did very well. In the second half he took a fair good kicking as well but he did a good job. He did very well in the second half,” said Fenlon.
“It was a good game; I thought the whole lot was good. I thought Shels played well, our lads did ok so I’m quite happy. We finished the game strongly I thought. We have good things to take out of it because we had a couple of young lads playing that did ok for us.”
Fenlon regards the EA Sports League Cup as an important environment for his youngsters to gain experience this season. “We would like to progress so some of the young boys get some football and see how they get on and match up when they go against senior players,” he said.
Paddy Madden, on loan from Bohs to Shels, had an impressive game against his parent club, and was a threat throughout most of the game.
“He is a good player, the reason we had him on loan there is to get experience. He should have scored the winner, he’ll get a bit of stick about that but he’s a good player. Very very good. He’s doing good for Shels, scoring plenty of goals. That’s the reason we send these lads out to clubs, for experience.”
“And it’s another Bohs’ lad scoring for Shels,” joked Fenlon, whose side face a trip north to Derry in the Premier Division this Friday night.
