League Preview: Longford Town -v- Bray Wanderers

Bottom of the table Longford Town will host Bray Wanderers in a vital six-pointer in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division at the City Calling Stadium on Saturday evening (kick-off 7.30pm).

 

LONGFORD TOWN

Longford Town will be aiming to keep their slim hopes of avoiding relegation from the SSE Airtricity Premier Division with a morale boosting home win against Bray Wanderers on Saturday night.

 

The Town have been on a dreadful run of form recently taking only one point from their last 6 league games which coincided with their elimination from this seasons FAI Cup with an emphatic 4-1 trouncing at the hands of Cork City.

 

Longford were outclassed in their last league game by the side from Rebel County again last Friday night suffering a humiliating 5-2 defeat at Turner’s Cross.

 

This will be newly appointed Town boss Alan Mathews first game in charge and the new man at the helm was busy doing his homework on the upcoming fixture having watched Bray Wanderers take on St. Patrick’s Athletic during the week.



 

Longford boss Mathews is aware of the size of the task facing his side and was quick to tell www.lftc.ie, “Bray were excellent against St. Pat’s on Tuesday night and fully deserved their win, we are looking forward to the game on Saturday and know we will need to play to our potential to get the right result.”

 

Alan Mathews has some injury concerns ahead of the match with Noel Haverty and Cody Mulhall still unavailable due to injury, however, on a positive note for The Town David O’Sullivan trained during the week and is available for selection.

 

 



BRAY WANDERERS

Bray Wanderers will look to widen the gap between themselves and the bottom side Longford Town by taking maximum points back to the East coast  with them from the Midlands.

 

Bray Wanderers put in a very impressive display on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over St. Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park coming from behind thanks to goals from Ger Lender and Hugh Douglas.

 

The Seagulls have picked up some vital wins since the mid-season break ended and have been in a rich vein of form with 4 wins and 1 draw from their last six league games and one defeat at the hands of title chasing Cork City (4-0).

 

Bray Wanderers boss Harry Kenny will be hoping his side can continue this purple patch and notch another win to ease their relegation worries.
