League Report: Sligo Rovers 0 - 1 Dundalk FC
A first half strike by David McMillan was enough to give Dundalk all three points against ten-man Sligo Rovers on the Showgrounds on Tuesday night.
Nine minutes into the game, Bit O’Red midfielder was given his marching orders by referee Paul McLaughlin following a foul on Daryl Horgan.
Four minutes later, the Lilywhites took the lead, as McMillan found himself through on goal before slotting past Michael Schlingermann in the Sligo goal.
Moments later, Sligo had a chance to equalise, as Achille Campion’s cross was headed narrowly wide by forward Liam Martin.
Sligo had further chances to level through Raffaele Cretaro, while referee McLaughlin turned down a late penalty shout after Rovers defender Gavin Peers claimed to be fouled by Andy Boyle.
However, Dundalk held on to take all three points and now switch their focus to Friday night’s Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup Quarter-Final against UCD at the UCD Bowl.
